Rides
Members of the group ride together regularly. All these rides are recreational and everyone is made to feel welcome.
You are welcome to join us on these rides, but if you want to ride on a regular basis then you will be expected to join the group.
We use the Spond system to distribute details of rides and expect members to respond using this system so that ride leaders can plan appropriately. When you join the group you will be invited to register with the system. The system holds emergency contact information which is available to ride leaders. You should ensure that this information is kept up to date.
If attendance warrants it ride leaders may split rides into smaller groups for safety reasons. This is done flexibly and may permit riders to opt for longer rides or to ride with a faster or slower group.
All riders must accept the group’s terms and conditions.
We have a large number of local routes that we regularly use and these can be found on the Routes page together with GPX files that can be used to navigate these routes using a suitable device or smartphone application.
Being social rides we usually stop for coffee, cake and a chat. Our regular stops are listed on the Coffee Stops page.
Wednesday Rides
We usually meet for these in time to depart at 10 a.m. from the Lakeside Car Park in Newent. Invites to these rides will be published to active riders using Spond and it is requested that people reply using Spond so that leaders know how many riders to expect. The rides will usually include a coffee stop and riders should expect to be back in Newent by 1:30 p.m.
There may be two or more rides offered on the same day to ensure that ride groups are not too large to be unsafe or to overwhelm the coffee stop – some of which are quite small. A limit may be put on the numbers of riders that can accept the invite, and acceptances will be on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. A new innovation for 2023 is to offer a shorter ride (in the order of 15 miles) for the benefit of those wanting company on a shorter ride when returning to riding after illness or injury or just starting out. Obviously only one ride on a day should be accepted, but it does help if the invitation to the other rides is declined.
Weekend Rides
Once or twice a month rides are arranged on either a Saturday or Sunday. These may start in Newent but sometimes we meet elsewhere to allow us to try new roads, new coffee stops or perhaps visit a site of interest.
Special Rides
From time to time special rides are organised which may be full or multiple days. In the past we have tackled the Gospel Pass, ridden from Bristol to Bath and had a weekend riding to Hay and back.
